IVF Treatments
What are IVF Treatments?
In vitro fertilization, or IVF, is a complex series of procedures that is used to treat infertility problems in people who are struggling to conceive. It can also be used in same sex couples who will require assistance to start their family. It is the most effective form of assisted reproduction. At Aspire, we use the most advanced technology and latest research to encourage successful pregnancies. IVF can be performed in many different ways:
- Using your own eggs and your partner’s sperm
- Using eggs, sperm or embryos from a known or anonymous donor
- Using a gestational carrier, who is a woman who will carry the pregnancy if the female partner is not able to do so.
Your Aspire physician will recommend a course of treatment that is unique to your case, medical history, and diagnostic testing results. Sometimes, the type of IVF treatment you have will change as time goes on. This can be because of changing hormone levels, or the results of other treatment cycles.
What are the IVF Treatment Techniques?
In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF)
IVF is one of the most commonly used and most effective procedures to treat infertility. It can be used to overcome multiple fertility problems and can be used in conjunction with an egg or sperm donor, or gestational carrier. During this procedure, a single sperm is injected into each retrieved egg. Unlike most clinics, we offer ICSI to our clients at no extra cost.
Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)
Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is a method of fertilizing an egg. It helps to overcome problems with fertilization, which is often an issue with male factor fertility problems and estimated to affect around 30% of infertile couples. During this procedure, a single sperm is injected into each retrieved egg. Unlike most clinics, we offer ICSI to our clients at no extra cost.
Frozen Embryo Transfer
The process of placing the fertilized and developed embryos back into the uterus is called an embryo transfer. However, during IVF, the hormone levels that are needed for embryo implantation may not be synchronized correctly. Even though patients undergoing IVF are given hormone supplements to help manage this problem, recent research has shown that there may be a benefit to freezing the embryos and transferring them during a later cycle. At Aspire, we offer this delayed embryo transfer at no additional cost to our patients.
Assisted Hatching
Assisted hatching is a procedure that helps the embryo to break out of its shell, also known as the zona pellucida, to implant into the uterine wall. The embryologist will weaken or break a small portion of this shell prior to the embryo transfer.
Preimplantation Genetic Screening and Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis
Preimplantation genetic screening (PGS) and preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) are relatively new procedures to help patients screen for chromosomal abnormalities and genetic disorders. PGD allows for screening for a specific genetic disorder, and is most appropriate for couples that carry the genes for a genetic disease, like cystic fibrosis. PGS, on the other hand, is a screening procedure for chromosomal abnormalities, that helps to reduce miscarriage and embryo implantation failure.
