Aspire Fertility Welcomes Dr. Deborah Ikhena
Aspire Fertility Austin is thrilled to welcome Dr. Deborah Ikhena-Abel (Dr. Debo)! Dr. Debo is not only an accomplished physician, but also a speaker and content creator who takes a holistic, evidence-based approach to reproductive health.
Board certified in both General Obstetrics and Gynecology and Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG), Dr. Debo earned her medical degree from the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. She then went on to complete her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine.
Dr. Debo says her journey to becoming a Reproductive Endocrinologist began while watching family members struggle with infertility and the associated stigma in a society where fertility is deemed essential. She credits her love for the science of hormones and the fascinating medical discoveries that allow so many people to grow their families, when only a few decades ago would have had no options available to them, with her decision to pursue this career path.
She’s most proud of the patient experiences where patients tell her she made them feel seen, heard and supported on their journey to having the family of their dreams. Dr. Debo says, “Infertility and recurrent pregnancy loss are incredibly challenging medical diagnoses to navigate and, in my opinion, the journey is just as important as the final outcome.”
Dr. Debo’s areas of expertise include a wide range of women’s health conditions such as infertility, fertility preservation, polycystic ovarian syndrome, uterine fibroids, recurrent pregnancy loss, endometriosis, and irregular or absent periods.
Outside of work, Dr. Debo enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters, both of whom are rainbow babies. She is also an avid reader and loves fiction, especially the work of Shirlene Obuobi, Elin Hilderbrand, Sonny Hostin and Lily Chu.
